ABSTRACT Molecular recognition plays an important role in biological and chemical processes. Since molecular imprinting techniques can afford complementary binding site(s) for a template molecule, the molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are used for the purpose of specific recognition of the target molecule. As chromatographic media, the MIPs have been used for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), thin-layer chromatography and capillary electrochromatogr-aphy stationary phases, and solid-phase extraction media. In this review article, the application of the MIPs as HPLC packing materials will be discussed. Furthermore, recent progress in polymerization methods for the preparation of beaded MIPs will be described.
