ABSTRACT Rhenium (VI) compounds are the most exotic. The use of the compounds with “unusual” oxidation states of rhenium is mainly determined by the possibility of their stabilization in solution. The quantitative formation of stable, paramagnetic Re(VI) complexes in acid, neutral and organic solution, equilibrium diagrams of Re compounds, their properties (redox, complex formation, catalytic, etc.) and mechanism of kinetic reactions were studied with the use of UV/VIS, IR, ESR, kinetic spectroscopy and other methods. More than 20 systems were studied in which Re(VI) compounds are formed. The stable Re(VI) oxohalide complexes (ReOCl5-, ReOBr4) and series complexes with N- and S-containing organic ligands have been established. It was for the first time in the world that on the basis of the properties of Re(VI) compounds, a number of sensitive and high specifity methods were used (spectrophotometric, ESR, spin trap ESR, photochemical, catalytic, etc.) for the determination of rhenium. These methods were used for determination of rhenium concentration in different natural and technical materials (including plants).
