ABSTRACT Stomoxys are vectors of dangerous diseases and have been identified in the cattle-rearing area of Ngaoundere, but little is known about their abundance, diversity, distribution and biotope preference. A study was conducted in three bioclimatic zones: Galim (open grass savanna), Mbidjoro (gallery forest) and Velambai (riverine), using the Nzi (three), Vavoua (three) and Biconical (three) traps. Traps were emptied for three days consecutively per month for 10 months (October 2016 to June 2017 and September 2018). The identification of Stomoxys spp. was conducted morphologically using standard keys. The species abundance (ADT), richness, distribution and diversity were established. The association of catches with biotope was conducted. In total, 5203 stomoxys were collected. Five species were identified as Stomoxys niger niger, Stomoxys calcitrans, Stomoxys niger bilineatus, Stomoxys omega and S. xanthomelas. The savanna site (Galim) recorded high Stomoxys apparent density, but the riverine site (Velambai) had high biodiversity indices. Stomoxys niger niger was the only species that was associated to all biotopes.
