ABSTRACT Arsenic (As) is a toxic heavy metal and found in drinking water around the world. Due to As’s many life-threatening effects to living organisms, it is important for scientists to determine the most efficient and cost-effective way to detect and remove As from drinking water. Electrochemical detection is an inexpensive and efficient way to detect heavy metals utilizing square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWSV). This communication presents a rapid green synthesis technique using honey, a common household item, to produce silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) which, when applied to a working electrode sensor, improve catalytic properties and sensor performance. Green synthesis of NPs is a novel technique to consider to eliminate the need for chemicals that are toxic to the environment when synthesizing NPs. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) is a viable method to confirm the presence of these Ag NPs.
