ABSTRACT

Platypnea–orthodeoxia syndrome (POS) is a rare clinical condition characterized by onset of dyspnea and hypoxemia when sitting or standing, which improve with recumbent position. Here we report a 71-year-old patient without intracardiac shunt or other extracardiac abnormalities commonly associated with the syndrome, who developed POS while recovering from severe COVID-19 pneumonia. This case highlights the importance of close bedside monitoring of pulse oximetry during positional change in patients with severe COVID-19.
