ABSTRACT The liquid-phase hydrogenation and hydrodehalogenation of chloronitroben zene on Ni/SiO2 and Pd/C catalysts were studied in a stirred tank slurry reactor. The reaction kinetics is described by a Langmuir-Hinshelwood model. In addition to the kinetics, the effects of solvent, water and inhibitor were examined. Different results were obtained using a Ni/SiO2 or Pd/C catalyst in combination with solvents. The catalytic dechlorination was investigated in connection with the hydrogenation of chloronitrobenzene and in separate experiments using chloroaniline as substrate.
