ABSTRACT Branch in soybean (Glycine max.( L.) Merr.) is frequently one of the important yielding components produced higher yield. Very few researchers reported about effect of branch on yield and yield components. The objective of this experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of branch removal on flower, pod and yield in each Section (every four nodes in main stem). Soybean cultivar `Enrei` (Maturity group VI) was grown in the field with sand loam soil of Niigata University (37˚ N). Plant densities are at 25, 20 and 16 plants m-2 respectively. One or two larger branches were removed on the fifth day (R2) after flower beginning (R1). Flower number m-2 in Section 2 and 3 increased in case of one branch removal, on the other hand that in Section 2 increased and in Section 1 decreased significantly in case of two branches removal. Pod number m-2 increased in Section 3 or Section 3 and 2 in case of one or two branches removal. When one or two branches were removed, yield in Section 1 decreased greatly, however Section 3 and 4 almost did not change. Yield in Section 1 decreased due to the flower and pod reduction in Section 1. Yield resulted in decrease greatly in case of two branches removal.
