ABSTRACT

The production of Taxol and related taxanes by extraction from plant biomass is important from a laboratory and industrical perspective. A review of recent literature reveals a number of important factors to consider when developing an extraction procedure. These factors include the selection of biomass, season for harvesting, drying conditions, storage conditions, primary extraction methods, and isolation methods. This review focuses on the current state of understanding of the practical considerations in the isolation and production of Taxol and related taxanes from plant biomass.
