The author describes a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique for the simultaneous analysis of acetamiprid (ATP) and its desmetyl metabolite IM-2-1 (IM2), and imidacloprid (ICP) and its metabolite 6-chloronicotinic acid (6CA), using an isocratic organic solvent-free mobile phase. Chromatographic separations were performed using a C1 column of particle size 10 μm with a 0.36 mmol/L 1-octanesulfonic acid sodium (OSA) mobile phase and a diode-array detector (DAD). The total run time was < 10 min. The main validation data, linearity and system suitability were well within the international recommended criteria. The detection limits for ATP, ICP, IM2, and 6CA were 0.0097, 0.0083, 0.0098, and 0.0010 μg/mL, respectively. The HPLC-DAD system with its high repeatability and safety could be further effective for quantifying ATP, ICP, IM2, and 6CA residues in animal-derived foods.
