In recent years, studies on the multi-photon absorption (MPA) properties of organic compounds have remained as a hot field in both optical science and material science. This review introduces the theory of MPA process, surveys the structure-property relationships of MPA process which provides the instruction on the synthesis of efficient MPA molecules and describes the methods of measurements emphasizing certain factors with special attention and highlights the potential application of the MPA.
