ABSTRACT
 
Valence bond structures of the Green-Linnett type for the ground-state of O2 are used to construct valence bond structures for the spiral-chain O­4 polymer. These latter structures involve cyclic and extended 6-electron 4-centre bonding units of the increased-valence type.
