Mimosa pudica L. (Mimosaceae), also known as touch me not, live and die, humble plant and shame plant, is widely used in traditional folk medicine to treat various diseases including diarrhea, alopecia, tumor, insomnia, dysentery etc. and is also effective in the treatment of wounds and snake bite. Mimosa pudica L, a sensitive plant, is a semi-prostrate, prickly course herb, commonly distributed in lowland tropical rainforest, tropical and subtropical dry forest and thorn scrub, savanna, mid-elevation subtropical forest, grassland, and desert. Mimosa pudica L. is also known for its biological and pharmacological activities and the cooling properties of the bitter, acrid root are used to treat various diseases in Ayurveda. The present review highlights the various traditional uses as well as phytochemical and pharmacological activities of Mimosa pudica.
