ABSTRACT

Manufacturing sites that process combustible dust and wish to follow the new National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard (652) must complete a Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) for all areas with a combustible dust hazard. To meet the standard, the DHAs must be completed by the fall of 2018. The recommended approach to this effort is the subject of this paper. The first step is to collect physical property data on the powders and dusts processed. The second step is to analyze the dust explosion hazard for all operations and activities where an explosion exposure may occur. The third step is to document the effort and the management systems required to ensure safe operations.
