ABSTRACT

A drift flux model for two-phase gas liquid flow in a packed bed is developed based on Zuber-Findley drift flux model for pipe flow. Based on this model expressions for the drift flux parameters, distribution parameter and weighted mean drift velocity are derived. Experiments are conducted in a packed bed with air-water flow in trickle, bubbly and pulsed flow mode. Measurements are made on pressure drop and bed void fraction using an impedance meter. Using experimental data on void fraction and flow rates, the values of drift flux distribution parameter and weighted mean drift velocity applicable for trickling, bubbly and pulsing flow regimes in a packed bed reactor are determined.
