ABSTRACT

Supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) has attractive potential applications for industrial enzymatic reactions because of its non-residual toxicity, non-flammability, quick diffusivity in the bulk phase and easily regulated hydrophobicity. Enzyme reactions using SCCO2 as a solvent have been regarded as an efficient and eco-friendly technology to improve the reactivity of the enzyme. The critical temperature and pressure of carbon dioxide are favorable to avoid thermo-denaturization of the enzyme and its bioproducts. SCCO2 has been proposed to be a suitable solvent for industrial biochemical production via enzymatic reaction. Improvements in enzymatic reactivity using SCCO2 technology compared to a conventional organic system have been demonstrated.
