ABSTRACT
 
The utilization of elicitation techniques presents a novel and inventive approach in the realm of functional food and nutraceutical production. The interconnection between plant elicitation, functional food, and nutraceutical production can be approached from various perspectives. Plant elicitation refers to the process of stimulating plants to produce specific compounds or metabolites that have beneficial effects on human health. This can be achieved through various methods such as exposure to specific environmental conditions, application of elicitor substances, or genetic manipulation. Functional foods, on the other hand, are food products that have been fortified or enriched with bioactive compounds derived from plants or other natural sources. These compounds are believed to provide additional health benefits beyond basic nutrition. Nutraceutical production involves the extraction, purification, and formulation of bioactive compounds from plants or other natural sources to create products with specific health-promoting properties. The relationship between these three concepts lies in the fact that plant elicitation plays a crucial role in the production of functional foods and nutraceuticals by enhancing the accumulation of bioactive compounds in plants. By understanding and manipulating the elicitation process, researchers and manufacturers can optimize the production of functional foods and nutraceuticals with enhanced health benefits. Utilizing methods of elicitation offers a cost-efficient and socially accepted strategy to improve the performance of plant-derived food items.
