ABSTRACT

Biofouling and biocorrosion impose significant economical losses to industry. There are several physical, chemical and biological factors  influencing these processes. Detect, diagnose, monitor and control or prevent the problem is essential. Prevention of biofouling and biocorrosion can be achieved by different methods with dissimilar efficacy. In general, it is very difficult to impede microorganisms growth and a remedial treatment is needed. The advantages and disadvantages of several prevention and detection methods, biocide treatments and monitoring devices are discussed.
