This survey is focused on the use of five-membered heteroaromatics (furan, thiophene, pyrrole, and their benzoderivatives) as 2 π-components in 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions with nitrilium and azomethinium betaines. The peculiar aspects and the synthetic advantages of these reactions are enphasised along with their, limitations.
