ABSTRACT

Mass sensitivity is just one of the factors responsible for the frequency changes in acoustic wave devices. Those sensors are not purely gravimetric and analytical sensitivity can be enhanced by analyte induced viscosity or modulus change. In fact, it is even possible that frequency changes arise mainly by changes in acoustic properties of material and interface phenomena. An overview of those factors with analytical interest will be presented and a few examples of sensors that do not obey Sauerbrey equation will be given.
