ABSTRACT

We present an analytical-theoretical approach to determine approximately the off-resonance electrical conductance in a multi-atom metallic nanowire attached to an electrochemical cell. In our approach, a matrix formalism is introduced for calculating actually the conductance in question and also the Hamiltonian operator relative to the interaction between the nanowire and the electrochemical cell. The role of this cell as reservoir is pointed out in detail.
