ABSTRACT

Fossil fuels are extensively used by humans to meet a variety of daily needs. The usage of fossil fuels in automobiles and industries causes the release of deleterious gases into the atmosphere and sulfur dioxide is one among these gaseous pollutants. Hydrodesulfurization, which is employed for removal of sulfur compounds from petroleum products, is not up to the mark as it cannot remove the most recalcitrant organosulfur compounds like dibenzothiophene from petroleum products. Biodesulfurization, which involves microbes for removal of sulfur content, is a possible better alternative solution. Dibenzothiophene is regarded as a model substrate for biodesulfurization studies. Bacteria that possess 4S pathway mechanism, regulated by dszA, B and C genes of dsz operon, for the selective removal of sulfur from dibenzothiophene are considered as potential desulfurizing bacteria. The dszB gene encodes DszB enzyme protein. In the present paper, the dszB gene sequence of Streptomyces sp. VUR PPR 102, isolated from oil-contaminated soils of mechanical workshop site, was expressed in NCBI ORF (open reading frame) finder and the corresponding amino acid sequence of DszB enzyme was obtained. The amino acid sequence of DszB enzyme was used in SWISS MODEL WORKSPACE to develop the DszB enzyme model by automated mode. The DszB enzyme model quality was determined by Ramachandran plot in Rampage and in Swiss PDB Viewer (SPDBV).
