ABSTRACT

This work aims to study the elimination of bromocresol green dye (C21H14Br4O5S) using electrochemical oxidation (EO) and adsorption approaches separately followed by the selection of better operating conditions to combine both methods to propose an efficient wastewater treatment. Using the EO process, and employing Ti/Pt as anode, efficiencies of 94% and 60% for color and total organic carbon (TOC) removal were achieved, respectively. In the case of adsorption treatment (an ion exchange resin was used), 89% of color removal and 65% of TOC decay were achieved. However, using an integrated process (electrochemical plus adsorption), efficiencies of about 95% and 90% were attained for color and TOC, respectively. The synergic effect associated with coupling both processes improved the elimination efficiencies when compared with the results obtained by applying single treatments.
