ABSTRACT

By Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) the thermal behavior of blends constituted of two crystalline polymers is investigated. The examined blends are constituted of two random fluorinated copolymers of tetrafluoroethylene, namely poly(tetrafluoroethylene-co-hexafluoropropylene) (FEP) and poly(tetrafluoroethylene-co-perfluoromethylvinylether) (PFMVE). The effect of the blend composition and of difference in defect content on the phase behavior is studied. Our results indicate the occurrence of cocrystallization for all composition and all investigated experimental conditions when the difference in the defect content is as low as 1 mol%. On increasing such difference the occurrence of cocrystallization depends upon the blend composition, until, when the difference becomes 9 mol% the polymers never cocrystallize.
