ABSTRACT The nearly exponential growth of the macadamia industry over the past 10 years linked with the eradication of natural forested areas and establishment of large monocultures provided an ideal scenario for a number of pests to proliferate. At present the Cryptophlebia and Heteroptera complexes consisting of 4 and 35 species respectively are responsible for significant crop losses annually, while the pest status of the thrip complex is still uncertain. Various components of a workable IPM programme for these complexes are discussed and possible problems and solutions for the industry are highlighted.
