The data that follow review part of the existing evidence concerning the possible autoimmune origin of peripheral demyelinating neuropathies, taking into account the humoral effectors only. Since existing data indicate that both cellular and humoral factors participate in the demyelinating processes, limited references to cellular effectors, as well as to central syndromes, are included where necessary.
