ABSTRACT Photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PDS) and photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) are the minor experimental techniques but sometimes quite attractive methods. They are a kind of an optical absorption measurement and complementary to a usual diagnosis with light emission. In this article, we describe the principle of the two methods and put emphasis upon the merit of each method. Finally, we introduce the successful application of this kind of methods to porous silicon.
