ABSTRACT Cationic platinum-hydride complexes react with dialkynylelementa species to give elementa-cyclobutenyl ligands. By this method, unsaturated four-membered rings containing phosphorus, arsenic, sulfur, silicon, or carbon as elementa skeletal atoms can be prepared. Mechanistic studies indicate that a unified mechanism can be proposed for the formation of these unsaturated hetero- or carbocyclic compounds.
