ABSTRACT Recent developments in the synthesis, structure and reactivity of dimeric and soluble cyclopentadienyl Cr, Mo and W sulfides are summarised. The introduction of different substituents at the Cp ligands allows to investigate steric and electronic effects. Further important influence is exerted by the nature of the metal centers. The reactivity potential of the sulfur bridges is illustrated by recent literature examples underlining the model character of the compounds for heterogenous catalysis processes.
