ABSTRACT Borepins, each being annelated with thiophene, that is, 6-phenylborepino[4,5-c]thiophene (1b) or 6-phenylborepino[4,5-b]thiophene(2b), were synthesized. The synthetic strategies of these molecules are reviewed in conjunction with those of some related borepins. Characterization of 1b and 2b in comparison with some pertinent reference compounds was carried out by means of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, which is derived from the degree of contribution of a crucial canonical structure.
