2-(Ethoxycarbonyl)acetamidrazones have proven to be useful precursors for a wide variety of heterocycles. In particular the synthesis, structure and reactivity of N¹-acyl- 2-(ethoxycarbonyl)acetamidrazones are described. The ready availability of the starting materials and the simplicity of the procedures make them attractive candidates for the synthesis of biologically active heterocycles.
