ABSTRACT

Differential vulnerabilities of celibate women to cancers of the breast (remarkably high) and the uterine cervix (substantial lack of cancer risk), as noted in Italy more than one century ago, have been the subject of hot discussion among the 20th century researchers as regards the continuity of causal relationship between the above 2 neoplasias.  In l981, the authors of this article presented endocrinological and epidemiological evidences to indicate that mammary and cervical cancers in their geneses are to be related each to failed maturations of the ovary and the adrenal during adolescent ages because of 2 contrasting biases of life style including climate, diet and onset of marital experience.  With a time lapse of more than 2 decades, the status quo of the steroid carcinogenesis concept is discussed in the light of recent progress of cancer research.
