ABSTRACT In the present investigation trails have been carried out to detect the possibility of occurrence of toxigenic Penicillium spp. in different grain and feed samples. Aspergillus, Penicillium, Mucor, Rhizopus, Fusarium, Alternaria and Scopulariopsis were the predominant fungal genera isolated from grains and feeds. Of the genus Penicillium, 12 species were isolated from the representative samples. Thin layer chromatographic analysis of the isolated Penicillium strains, revealed that 78 (65%) of Penicillium strains recovered from grain and feed samples had the ability to produce one or more of these mycotoxins: citrinin, patulin, rubratoxin B, cylopiazonic acid and ochratoxin A.
