ABSTRACT

A number of 16-crown-5 derivatives possessing a variety of substituents were synthesized. Their cation-binding abilities were evaluated by solvent extraction technique, and conductance study. In general, they showed the high Na+/K+ selectivity compared with any other crown-5 derivatives. The effect of substituents, ring size, and molecular symmetry upon cation-binding ability/selectivity was discussed.
