ABSTRACT

A wide range of experimental strategies has lead to the demonstration of which the polyamines directly are implied in several cellular processes such as: embryogenesis, cell division, vascular differentiation, flowering, rhizogenic induction, phenomena of stress and modulation of the senescence, among others. Also they have effect on the resistance to virus and fungi in certain plants. Recent developments in the metabolism and function of polyamines in plants is presented. The present review emphasises the importance  of polyamines in different processes of plant development. Direct and indirect approaches have demonstrated that polyamines are involved in cell division and in other events connected with growth and morphogenesis in plant tissue and cell cultures and that they effect senescence and stress responses, however their exact role is not completely understood.
