ABSTRACT

Stress situations both in natural or cultured conditions are detected and first processed by the neuroendocrine system in fish as in other vertebrates. Among the secondary responses, an immunosuppressed state is induced as can be observed in a number of indicators at cellular or serum levels. This reduction of immunocompetence allows the entrance of pathogens and the spread of diseases specially under culture conditions.
