In this review, current knowledge on the impact of dietary nucleotides on intestinal, hepatic, brain and immune functions is presented and the sources and the metabolic fate of dietary nucleotides are also summarized. The effects on cell proliferation and differentiation under physiological and pathological circumstances both in animals and in humans are revisited, and the possible mechanisms for their actions are discussed.
