ABSTRACT

Germination trials were conducted in environmental growth chambers to determine the relationships between and among achene weight, orientation, time taken by an achene to germinate, and storage. Germination was essentially complete irrespective of experimental  trial and in some instances supported previous findings, whereas in other instances refuted previous reports. Although achenes do germinate in the fall their protracted germination may represent a form of opportunistic dormancy.
