ABSTRACT

General formulas for gas-driven permeation (GDP) plasma-driven permeation (PDP) and simultaneous gas-and plasma-driven permeation (GDP+PDP) have been derived by an electrical circuit analogy. Permeation resistance and permeation potential are newly defined for both diffusion in the bulk and recombination on the surface and the gradient of permeation potential against permeation resistance is considered to be the general driving force for hydrogen Permeation through a laminate. The general formulas agree well with the experimental results and the existing expressions in specific cases of GDP or PDP are deducible from the general formula of GDP or PDP.
