ABSTRACT

The paper presents the most recent progress about the development of molecular “light-switch” for DNA. The first part describes the DNA binding properties of [Ru(L)2(dppz)]2+ (L = 2,2’-bipyridine or 1,10 phenanthroline, dppz   =   dipyrido[3,2-a:2’,3’-c] phenazine), which is a proven DNA intercalator. The second part focuses on some other complexes exhibiting similar effect for DNA and their DNA binding behavior. The possible mechanism involved in the molecular  “light-switch” effect was discussed in the last part.
