ABSTRACT

Chemical characterization and pharmacological investigation of mononuclear cis-Pd(II) mixed ligand complexes, trans-Pd(II) mixed ligand complexes and polynuclear Pd(II) compounds were described. This research shows parallel between platinum and palladium complexes as antitumor agents. The goal of this article is to show that some palladium(II) complexes have cytotoxic activity in vitro and in vivo. Some “non-classical” palladium(II) complexes with general formulae [Pd(En)Cl(L)](NO3) have considerable antitumor activity against acute myeloid leukemia derived HL-60. This review focuses on the data of anticancer chemistry of palladium compounds with an emphasis on the new strategies used in the development of new palladium antitumor agents.
