Studies on well-defined supramolecular donor-acceptor complexes, in which electron and energy transfer take place, will contribute not only to our understanding of these processes but to lay the foundation for the development of future molecular devices.  Elementary photophysical and complexation processes are summarized and supramolecular donor-acceptor complexes involving axial coordination of zinc-porphyrins are reviewed.
