ABSTRACT

This article overviews the electrochemical detection of carbohydrates in High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).  Potentiometric, amperometric, coulometric, and conductometric methods of carbohydrate analysis are compared critically.  Amperometric methods of analysis are considered as the most promising area because of sensibility, selectivity, low cost, and ease of implementation.  The amperometric detection of carbohydrates is subclassified into four different sections: 1) Pure metals and glassy carbon electrodes,  II) Metallic alloy electrodes, III) Modified electrodes, and IV) Biosensors.
