ABSTRACT

We show how Mass Spectrometric Imaging (MSI) can elucidate invisible fingermarks and explain why it is a powerful tool for forensic investigations. By analyzing lipid rich and sweaty latent fingermarks with matrix assisted and matrix free mass spectrometric imaging (MALDI/LDI) we present a method that is able to non-destructively reconstruct invisible fingermarks and give insight into the chemical nature of the mark.
