ABSTRACT

By using inverse scattering theory techniques in place of the pulse-echo method for analyzing ultrasound reflection from human tissue, and order of magnitude improvement in image resolution should be possible. We report the results of three studies directed at implementing this concept. Our results indicate that this is indeed possible and that the higher resolution ultrasound images can be very useful for medical diagnosis.
