ABSTRACT

Several monoclonal antibodies were prepared after immunization of mice with the hemocyanin of the scorpion Androctonus australis. We investigated their cross-reactives with the hemocyanin of different scorpions belonging to five out of the seven Families of Scorpions, by immunoblotting and immunoelectron microscopy. The results reported here allow us to distinguish different groups which correlate with the taxonomical classification. They also permit us to define new characteristics at the level of Family and species, and lead to a clear division of the Buthidae into two groups.
