ABSTRACT In this chapter a survey of the theory corresponding to the present and more usual chronopotentiometric techniques is presented: chronopotentiometry with potential and exponential programmed current-time functions, chronopotentiometry with current reversal and chronopotentiometry with alternating current. In this study it has been considered higher-order electrochemical reactions at standard electrodes (dropping mercury electrode (DME), static mercury drop electrode (SMDE) and plane electrode). Methods of obtaining reactions orders and kinetic and thermodynamic parameters are described throughout the chapter. The influence on the E/t response of several parameters such as the sphericity of the electrode, the kinetic parameters of the charge transfer reaction and the amalgamation of reaction product is also evaluated.
