ABSTRACT These recent years, the field of polymer modified electrodes has expended enormously. Progressively, a distinct category of materials, containing metal centers or nanodispersed metal particles has emerged. These materials are very promising due to their versatility, their potential promises and uses in the field of electrochemical catalysis. This review describes separately the polymers where the metal is linked to the main polymeric backbone (pendant group polymers), the polymers with metallic nanoparticles, and endly, the most recent group, the polymers where the metal is a part of the main chain and this provides the system to original properties. Some trends and future possible developments are also proposed in each area.
